Ryan Reed
My name is Ryan Reed and I have trained world champions in Jiu-Jitsu, several champion MMA fighters, and I have competed professionally myself. I now own a Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Huntsville, TX called Gracie Humaita Huntsville. My motivation for what I do is I believe it is our job to leave the world a better place for our children. I try to do this by serving my community as a firefighter and by teaching martial arts.
Phil Riggs
My name is Phil Riggs and I started Jiu-Jitsu later in life than most. In 2019, at the age of 55 I was falling into the status quo of todays society, being out of shape and overweight. I needed a change and found Jiu-Jitsu. Losing over 40lbs and getting my strength back while becoming a new person. It was during this time that I met Ryan Reed and we quickly became friends. I founded Gracie Humaita Huntsville in 2021, and asked Ryan to become my Partner in 2022.
I enjoy the daily grind, camaraderie and competition involved in Jiu-Jitsu. I recently competed and won gold at the Blue Belt level in 2023 at the largest Jiu-Jitsu event in history, The IBJJF World Masters, held annually in Las Vegas Nevada.
My motivation is like Ryan’s. I believe we must set the example for everyone we encounter. It is my job to be a positive influence to my family and colleagues and to strive as Professor Ryan says, “to be better than yesterday.”
